The Göteborg Opera has a vision - to be one of Europe's most interesting opera houses. There is space here for opera, modern dance, and musicals, and all under the same roof.
The very size of the building is a unique challenge. There are quite a few seats to fill to help finance artistic freedom. The Göteborg Opera is the largest dramatic institution in Sweden with the smallest amount of state-sponsored subsidies and the highest self-generated revenue. That's why it feels especially good that bookings have been better than ever in the last few years - an average of 85%. That's the equivalent of 250,000 opera visitors each year.
We have worked to bring the public to the Göteborg Opera since 1999, always with the same simple, basic idea: it is the performances that are the draw - in other words, we build the advertising campaigns on the contents of the different productions. And now there's an additional stage for displaying the Göteborg Opera, namely the new opera.se site.
